About

VAT (Value Added Tax) calculation is a daily need for shop owners, accountants, freelancers and shoppers alike. When invoicing you often need to add VAT to an amount, or extract the tax from a VAT-inclusive price.

This tool supports both directions: add VAT or extract it from a gross amount. You set the rate yourself (20% by default), and the net, VAT and gross figures are calculated instantly.

How to use

  1. Enter the amount.
  2. Type the VAT rate (20% by default).
  3. Choose add or extract mode; net, VAT and gross are calculated instantly.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you add VAT to an amount?
Multiply the amount by (1 + rate/100). For example, 100 with 20% VAT: 100 × 1.20 = 120 gross, 20 VAT.
How do you extract VAT from a gross price?
Divide the gross amount by (1 + rate/100) to get the net, and the difference is the VAT. Extracting 20% VAT from 120 gives 100 net and 20 VAT.
